For most people – even “serious believers” – the spiritual world is very thin and insubstantial. This does great harm to our walk with God. Among other things, we need to understand the presence of angels and how they function under God to guide and care for us. We need a biblical understanding of this, in a day where angels or something alleged to be like them, are a part of what starving souls are manufacturing to fill the abyss of their spiritual need and hunger. Quinton Howitt provides just that, and helps us to understand where we stand now within “the heavenly Jerusalem, and among myriads of angels.” (Heb. 1222-23) - Dallas Willard

Quinton Howitt has a sober mind. This short book was packed with useful information. Learned a lot. And will read it again from time to time to further my understanding on the topic of angels. As I read about angels (aggelos - messenger), and that it can also mean human messengers, I thought of John at the Isle of Patmos. He was to write to the angel(s) of the seven Churches. In my opinion, this is what happened: John had to get the message out from jail. How did he do that? He sent the message through human messengers; "Write to the angel of..." Human messengers to the seven churches that carried with them the message from John. It doesn't make sense, in my opinion, that John was to write to a heavenly being, as they already knew John's message (which is evident when reading Revelation). This is a theory.
About interacting with angels: I agree with Howitt that one shouldn't pray to or worship angels. However, it is scriptural to talk to angels. There's a difference between praying to and talking to angels. If I understand Howitt correctly, he believes this is possible, also from a scriptural standpoint. Again, the difference between praying to and talking to.

Angels - A Systematic Study by Quinton Howitt
This brief study on Angels kept my interest at a very high level. Throughout the book Quinton quoted Scripture and brought the study of Angels in the Bible into a very understandable and informative study.
This book should be kept as a reference book for any Bible and non-Bible scholar.

This book is one of the few books written for the lay person about angels, which actually focus solely on Scripture. It is easy to read and it is not one of the books you have to read several times in order to be able to tell/teach the content to others. The many Bible verses and passages it refers to facilitate one's own study of the subject if desired.
I can only recommend this book to everybody who wants to read some Bible-based teaching on angels, without any esoteric angle.
We live in an age where there is an unhealthy interest in angelic beings, in Christian circles as well as in other beliefs. Wrong practices arise from the lack of knowledge. I found Angels A Systematic Study easy to read, concise and very helpful in establishing a good biblical foundation and perspective on the angelic realm and angels. I highly recommend this work as a handy tool to keep for ready for use when difficult questions and situations arise.
I have read this book and found it to be incredibly helpful and informative bringing biblical correction to many misconceptions about the subject of angels in scripture. I would encourage any small group leader, pastor or ministry leader to read it as it will equip you effectively to answer many of the questions that people have about this subject.

At a time when general interest in angels is on the rise, Quinton provides a useful summary in this book of what the Bible has to say about angels, who they are and what they do. In the process, he uncovers a fascinating portrait of beings of great power, who are nevertheless devoted entirely to serving the All-mighty God and worshipping him. The book also offers a welcome corrective to the view of angels as cute little beings with wings, or else as beings worth being worshipped or venerated in their own right. Sightings of angels have often been regarded with suspicion in the established church, a view that Quinton again does much to put right. The book is short and packed with useful information. I recommend it.
Quinton Howitt is a theology professor. All too often theologians communicate in language that is not accessible to lay people. If you hear Quinton speak publicly as I did recently, you will experience someone who gives priority to accuracy and accessibility. He takes great care to make it simple. His work on Angels is the same. No important piece of theological or biblical information is lacking, but no one will struggle to follow him.
The content is important because there are all sorts of misconceptions "out there" today on angels, from TV fiction to strange and bizarre ideas emanating from some pulpits. This booklet will bring sanity and clarity to the subject.
Dr Derek Morphew, Cape Town, South Africa
This is a brief work written for the non-specialist believer that brings together much of what the Scripture says about angels. There are no exciting contemporary stories here, just clearly written and concisely stated systematic analysis of scripture and considered conclusions from that analysis. The scripture is treated as a whole, Old Testament and New Testament collected together, rather than read as a developing theology. It is treated in itself, without discussion about other cultures around the particular biblical book. This makes this particular work easy to read and straightforward. There are larger books about angels short of large systematic theologies (e.g. Stephen F. Noll, Angels of Light, Powers of Darkness, InterVarsity Press, 1998), and those with particular interest in this topic will want to go on and read them, but this work is a good place to start, and it is also a helpful guide to appreciating angels without falling into some of the excessive fascination with them that has been characteristic of much contemporary writing on the topic.
